Spring is here and the pond is awakening. The fish and the lilies have made it through the winter and it’s time to ‘deal’ with them.

Every year, waterlily plants that have been well-fertilized throughout the last season outgrow their pots and need splitting and replanting. They are now breaking dormancy and I am getting them ready to sell them to new owners and pond homes. The five that are my ‘parent’ plants are already well along and starting to grow.

Repotting is not complicated or fussy, but it does take a bit of time and effort. And I’m currently finding myself with a significant inventory. (I have sold 10; I have 24 more that are already repotted and fertilized and an additional 24 still to go).
I am going to be doing a couple of market events in the next several months and I take a few of them with me. It not only allows me to sell a few items, it is also a chance to promote my business and get more people signed up for my newsletter. (I do a free draw for a water lily in exchange for a subscription to the newsletter!!) And… I also talk to folks about 4-H.

Here’s a few pics from my pond last summer to show you the spectacular beauty of blooming water lilies. Well worth the effort, from my perspective.
