This has been a month of expansion… unexpected and unplanned for, but I rolled with it and got everything fixed up.

In the last couple of weeks it became quite obvious that Spiff was pregnant. I just didn’t get a vet appointment booked soon enough!!! So last Saturday morning, she wiffled around under the captain’s bed (in the clothing drawer – we removed all the clothes and put a blanket in there) and made herself a little nest.
By noon there were four new kittens in there. Of course, they mostly eat and sleep right now. As of today (5 days later), she is actually leaving them for a few minutes at a time and going outside for a bit of a break. Soon we will have 4 little bundles of activity keeping us busy in the house.
Then… late on Friday afternoon, I saw a panicked ad – someone needing to get a couple of rabbits to the SPCA. So, I contacted her and agreed to take them. I spent Saturday building a hutch for them and setting it up inside ‘the compound’ (so they have the protection of the electric fence).

The chickens are very curious, LOL!
Then on Sunday, I made the trip to bring Petunia and Rosebud home. They are angora x jersey wool rabbits, so with regular brushing they will provide fibre for my 4-H kids to experiment with. And maybe I’ll even get a bit of spinning in myself. We shall see!!
They are happily settled in their new home and seem to be well adjusted. They have been handled lots, so I make sure to give them a pet a few times each day. Brushing them will be fairly easy.

It is NOT my intention to get any more animals in the near future. The rabbits are both females — 4 months old. So unless I decide to get a buck (or take them for a visit next spring) they should remain 2, LOL!
Now I need to turn my attention back to the pond. So I have it in place before winter sets in. Phew! Never a dull moment around here!!
